From the President - Kathy Jones
Greetings!
The year is almost behind us and we are getting prepared for an even busier 2012. Most of you have already heard that HDS has been given a CDI 3* in conjunction with its CDI 1* and CPEDI 3* at the Spring Classic show in April. What does this mean? It means that we are an Olympic qualifier for both the Grand Prix and the Para Equestrians.  In addition, we are planning something very exciting that has not been in the country that we are aware of. We are planning to hold a Derby. The top three declared riders from the Intermediate I in the CDI 1* would rider each other’s horses in a PSG test on Sunday around noon. We are trying to get $10,000 in sponsorships and the winner will take all. Look for more details to follow. I am working with the USEF Dressage Committee to make this happen.
We will need many volunteers for this show. Gillian Gourlay will be our volunteer coordinator for the show, but I will also need help in getting it organized. If you are interested in helping with the behind-the-scenes work, please let me know. We want to make this the best show that HDS has ever orchestrated. I will try to list the different functions in the January newsletter.
Speaking of January, we are also looking for many volunteers for the Winter Show on January 21 and 22. This is a three ring show all under cover. We have two rings in the main indoor and one ring in the east arena. Entries close January 2nd.  Judges are Bill Solyntjes, Sandy Hotz and Kathy Rowse. We are also finalizing sponsorship packages for this show.
The Awards Banquet is the first Saturday in February. Be sure to get your reservation in on time. We have limited seating in the suite level of the Sam Houston Race Park. This room provides a great view of the live thoroughbred racing. Â
The most exciting thing to report from convention this year is the approval of a national championship in 2013. What does this mean? The top two riders in every championship class in every division will be invited to go head to head with the other regions at a location to be determined. I am working to try and get this show in Houston. Who wants to travel to Lexington, Kentucky in the second week of November? Another impact for our region is that our Regional Championships will have to move back to the second week in October. The late September shows will no longer be qualifiers. Our Labor Day show will be one of the last qualifiers of the season in 2013.Â
Our Schooling Show Chair, Lynda Langston, had to resign for personal reasons, but she found her own replacement. Karla West-Dee will be our new Chair moving forward. Thank you, Karla, for stepping in for Lynda and we look forward to working with you.
We still have two open positions on the Board – Volunteer Chair and Special Events Chair. This is your chance to help make a difference for HDS. Both of these positions come with a great support group. Take it up a notch!
As always, feel free to contact me with your great ideas for improving this club. Â
Happy Holidays!
